Notable Achievements: Setting speed record around Torres Del Paine National Park in
Patagonia, Chile. I hadn't seen anyone in 7 hours and then spotted 4 trekkers climbing the pass
before reaching Glacier Grey. I can only imagine their fright when I came running past in my
shorts and jumper, trudging through knee deep snow.
A memorable moment during a race or training run: My sister was trying to qualify for Western
States 100. I agreed to pace her and having not run much before, decided to join her on her 50
miler. I was cruising along near the 40 mile mark, feeling pretty good, after stopping at aid station.
I started my run towards the finish 10 miles away, when I looked ahead and saw two pit bulls
coming down the trail. The one off leash decided I would make a good snack and came charging
at me. He sprang and took me down on the trail, grazing the inside of my thigh, and drawing a bit
of blood. The owner came running over and hauled the dog off, as I tried to keeps its teeth from
my face and head. The owner took off to avoid trouble and left me lying on the trail, feebily trying
to stand up. I shuffled back towards the car park but she had already fled with both dogs. I was
left with the task of finishing a 50 miler on stiff and sore legs, not too mention a pair of puncture
marks. The last 10 miles weren't what you'd call proper running form, but I ended up finishing and
putting in a WS100 qualifying time!
